Case Study: Building a Social Network on Live Market Data

How OpinionKings uses the Prediction Hunt API to power a social prediction platform — live prices, cross-platform data, and resolution tracking.

The Challenge: Opinions Without Stakes

Social platforms are full of predictions — who wins the game tonight, where BTC closes the month, which team LeBron James joins next. What they lack is accountability. A hot take costs nothing, ages invisibly, and the loudest posters are rarely the most accurate ones.

OpinionKings set out to fix that by building a social network where every opinion can be attached to a live prediction market. That design decision creates a hard technical requirement: a social feed's worth of markets — sports, elections, crypto, commodities, weather, entertainment — all with real-time prices, live movement, and reliable resolution. Building that data layer from scratch would mean integrating half a dozen exchange APIs, normalizing their formats, and keeping thousands of prices fresh around the clock.

The Solution: OpinionKings x Prediction Hunt

The integration rests on two pillars: Prediction Hunt as the market data backbone, and the OpinionKings social layer on top.

1. One API for Every Market

Instead of integrating each prediction market platform separately, OpinionKings pulls from the Prediction Hunt API — a single source that aggregates and normalizes markets across Kalshi, Polymarket, and other venues. That one integration powers the data everywhere in the product:

  • Live prices, everywhere: The price ticker running across the top of every OpinionKings page, the market cards inside posts, and the Live Trades feed all read from Prediction Hunt's real-time price data — the same pipeline that keeps predictionhunt.com's odds boards current.
  • A full market catalog: OpinionKings' Markets tab spans Sports, Companies, Economics, Crypto, Commodities, Financials, Climate and Weather, Elections, Entertainment, and Science and Tech. That breadth comes from the API's cross-platform event catalog rather than from any single exchange's listings.
  • Movers and momentum: The "Movers" and "Hottest Right Now" rails rank markets by price change and volume — computed from Prediction Hunt's price history, so a +48¢ swing on a cricket match or a heating-up Fed decision market surfaces automatically.
  • Resolution tracking: When a market settles, the attached posts flip from ACTIVE to RESOLVED and predictions are marked against the outcome — the accountability that makes the leaderboard mean something.

2. The OpinionKings Product

On top of that data layer, OpinionKings built something none of the underlying exchanges offer: a genuinely social way to engage with markets.

  • The Feed: Users post opinions the way they would on any social network — text, polls, video — and link a live market to the post. A take on the iPhone 18 launch date ships with the market's live odds embedded, so the crowd's probability sits right next to the author's argument.
  • Reels: Short-form video takes attached to markets. A creator making the case for Lamine Yamal as the next GOAT does it over a live "Will Yamal leave Barcelona?" market card.
  • Play-money trading: New users get $10,000 in free play credits — no deposit — and can trade any market on the platform. It's the lowest-friction on-ramp to prediction markets there is: real market prices, real resolution, zero financial risk.
  • The Leaderboard: Because every prediction is logged against a real market and graded at resolution, OpinionKings can rank users by actual accuracy — turning "trust me" into a track record.

The Workflow in Action

  1. A market moves: Prediction Hunt's ingestion picks up a swing in the "Highest temperature in NYC" market as afternoon forecasts firm up.
  2. The product reacts: The OpinionKings ticker updates, and the market climbs the Movers rail with its +31¢ change.
  3. The community engages: Users post takes with the market card attached, others counter in the comments, and traders back their side with play credits at live prices.
  4. The market resolves: The official high prints, the market settles, posts flip to RESOLVED, and every prediction on it is graded — feeding the leaderboard.

Summary

OpinionKings shows what the Prediction Hunt API is for: they focused their engineering on the social product — feeds, reels, play-money trading, leaderboards — while a single API integration supplies live, normalized market data across every category their users care about. If prediction markets are becoming a spectator sport, OpinionKings is building the stadium, and Prediction Hunt is the live scoreboard.
