Anthropic launched Opus 5.5 on Sept 22 and described it as performing at the level of Claude Fable 5.1 on most work at 40% lower running cost than Opus 5, according to the Anthropic newsroom. The sources show the Swfte ranking and the price gain arriving close together, but they do not prove that one caused the other.

Claude Opus 5.5 vs Gemini 4 Argon: A Split Scoreboard

The two leaderboards point to different models. Gemini 4 Argon took #1 on the LMSYS Chatbot Arena text board on Oct 2, displacing Anthropic with an Elo rating of 1525.2. The Swfte index lists Opus 5.5 at an Arena Elo of 1509, about 16 points behind, per STELQ.
