Google is the favorite to have the best AI model at the end of October, following its Oct. 13, 2026 release of Gemini 4 Argon. On Polymarket's "Which Company Has the best AI model end of October" market, Google's implied probability is 80%. Google says the model ranks #1 on the Vals Index, which covers finance, coding, legal and tax tasks. Analysts say Argon makes Google competitive, not the clear leader.

Google's implied probability rose from 74% to 80% over the three days ending Oct. 21, about 6 percentage points. The sources show the sequence of launch and repricing; they do not establish that Argon caused this move, which came days after release.

What Google Claims for Gemini 4 Argon, and Where Analysts Disagree

The #1 Vals Index ranking is Google's own claim. In its launch post, Google says Argon outperforms OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra, Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Opus 5.5 across benchmarks it selected. It is Google's first major frontier release since Gemini 3 in late 2025, and Reuters framed it as a bid to regain ground on OpenAI and Anthropic after months of delays and a DeepMind leadership shakeup.

Independent rankings tell a narrower story. In a report dated Oct. 2, CNBC said that on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, Gemini 4 trailed only Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 and Claude Sonnet 5.5. That report predates Meta's Muse Wonder Full release, and later index snapshots may differ. Analysts at IDC, Omdia and Futurum said Argon's strengths are concentrated in cybersecurity and enterprise knowledge work, and that real-world production performance remains untested.

Google is also pushing adoption on price. StartupHub.ai reports introductory API pricing of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output, rising to $4 and $20 after Nov. 30, with no free-tier access. At 80%, traders still assign roughly a 1-in-5 chance that another company holds the title at resolution.

What Could Confirm or Reverse Google's 80% Before Month-End

The market resolves Oct. 31, 2026. Confirmation would mean Argon holding its Vals Index position while closing the gap on independent leaderboards such as Artificial Analysis, where Anthropic ranked ahead in the CNBC report. A reversal would most likely come from a rival release or ranking shift in the final ten days. Meta announced its frontier model Muse Wonder Full a day before Argon's launch, adding another contender to watch.

Google has kept shipping since launch, releasing the open MedGemma medical models on Oct. 20, per AI Weekly, though those specialized models are unlikely to decide a frontier ranking.
