North Carolina Senate turnout is on pace to clear 3.9 million votes, based on early returns, and the Above 3.90M contract in the North Carolina Senate voter turnout market reached 82% on Oct. 19, 2026. Early voting is running about 48% ahead of 2022, with more than 500,000 ballots cast by Oct. 18-19. The 2022 Senate race drew roughly 3.8 million total votes, so 3.90 million requires only a modest increase.

On Kalshi, the contract rose from 66% to 82%, a 16-percentage-point move over three days. Two warnings temper the early count. Republicans historically vote more heavily on Election Day, and mail voting is down about 31% from 2022.

How Early Voting Pushed the Above 3.90M Market Higher

The early-vote totals grew quickly over the weekend:

  • Friday, Oct. 16-17: North Carolina had recorded 437,217 early votes, including 398,581 cast in person, up about 48% from the same point in 2022, WRAL reported.
  • Saturday, Oct. 18: Statewide ballots passed 500,000. Sunday turnout in Wake and Durham counties also beat 2022 levels, according to ABC11.
  • Oct. 19: NBC News' tracker showed 501,321 mail and early in-person votes, about 6% of the state's 7.84 million registered voters.

The partisan mix in NBC's data is lopsided. Registered Democrats account for 45% of ballots cast, unaffiliated and other voters 35%, and Republicans 20%. WFAE reported that the GOP is struggling to turn out its voters early. Analysts including Michael Bitzer and Chris Cooper say Democratic enthusiasm is driving the surge. Registered Republican turnout is roughly flat to down from 2022.

The 82% price is traders' implied probability that certified total turnout will exceed 3.90 million. It is not a turnout forecast. The surge in early ballots lines up with the price move, but we could not confirm what individual traders acted on.

Why Early Voting Pace May Not Settle the 3.90M Question

A larger early vote does not guarantee a larger final total. Republicans in North Carolina have historically leaned toward voting on Election Day, so their flat early numbers may reflect when they vote, not whether they vote.

Absentee and mail voting are down about 31% from 2022. Part of the in-person gain could reflect voters switching from mail to early in-person ballots rather than new participation. Our sources do not say how much of the final total these shifts represent, and none projects a final turnout figure.

Day-one results set the tone. CBS17 reported 201,609 in-person votes on the first day, compared with 137,387 in 2022. That was a 47% increase, and 94 of 100 counties posted higher first-day turnout.

Are There Polls for the North Carolina Senate Election Turnout Market?

Our research found no public polls that measure total turnout. Available polls track candidate preference. A WRAL/WSOC SurveyUSA poll released Oct. 13 showed Democrat Roy Cooper leading Republican Michael Whatley 54% to 40%. A Carolina Forward poll the same day also gave Cooper a double-digit lead.

Those surveys address who wins, not whether ballots exceed 3.90 million. Whatley's campaign suspended TV ads, and the Senate Leadership Fund pulled back spending. Cooper also outraised Whatley in the third quarter, $19.5 million to $4.2 million.

The early-vote counts are hard data. The market price is a probability. Settlement depends on the contract's stated rules and its source for certified results, so check the resolution terms before Nov. 3.
