Amish Shah Holds AZ-01 Frontrunner Status, But Prediction Markets Are Slipping Fast

Prediction markets currently give the Democratic Party a 71% chance of winning the AZ-01 House seat in 2026, down 8 percentage points from 79% three days ago. Amish Shah, the physician and former state representative, remains the Democratic frontrunner in Arizona's 1st Congressional District, but his position weakened even after he secured an endorsement from the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Arizona on August 20. That credential was designed to neutralize "soft on crime" attacks in a suburban swing district. The endorsement landed. The market moved the other direction.

Kalshi shows Democrats at 70%; Polymarket sits at 72%. The spread is tight, which means the repricing is not an artifact of thin activity on one platform. Both books are telling the same story: Jay Feely is becoming a credible threat.

The timing creates a paradox worth examining. Shah just added a law-enforcement endorsement to his resume, the kind of credential that typically stabilizes or lifts a moderate Democrat's numbers. Yet traders sold. The explanation lies not in what Shah gained but in what Feely already has.

Jay Feely's Fundraising Edge and Trump Backing Are Making AZ-01 Competitive

Jay Feely has raised $1.79 million for the AZ-01 race. Amish Shah has raised $1.29 million. That $500,000 gap matters more than it would in an incumbent-held seat because neither party starts with a built-in structural advantage here. David Schweikert, the seven-term Republican who held AZ-01, is not seeking re-election as he pursues the governor's mansion. Open seats historically produce tighter races and reward candidates who build early financial infrastructure.

Feely's money advantage is compounded by a Trump endorsement, which the NRCC highlighted in July when celebrating his primary victory. That endorsement unlocks national Republican donor networks, earned media, and ground-game coordination that a police union nod cannot match in scale. The NRCC framed Feely as a fiscally conservative candidate with name recognition from his NFL career, a profile that plays well in AZ-01's mix of Scottsdale suburbs and exurban Maricopa County communities.

The crowded Democratic primary field also suppresses Shah's ceiling. FEC filings show Jonathan Treble leading all candidates in raw fundraising at $2.48 million, while Marlene Galán-Woods has raised $1.57 million. Shah is not even the best-funded Democrat in the race. If the primary fractures the Democratic coalition, Feely enters the general with a consolidated Republican base and a financial runway already longer than his likely opponent's.

The arithmetic case against Democratic chances in AZ-01 is straightforward. Feely outraises Shah, holds the only major national endorsement in the race, and competes for a seat Republicans held for over a decade. Schweikert won AZ-01 by 1.3 percentage points in 2024, the tightest margin of his career, and that came with the advantages of incumbency. Without those advantages, the Republican path runs through money and media, and Feely currently leads on both fronts.

Are There Polls for the AZ-01 2026 House Race?

No public head-to-head polls between Amish Shah and Jay Feely have surfaced for the 2026 general election. The race remains in its primary phase, with both parties fielding large candidate fields, and commissioned polling at this stage typically stays behind closed doors. That absence is itself informative: without polling, prediction markets become the only live probabilistic signal, and their movements carry outsized interpretive weight.

The 71% Democratic figure on Kalshi and Polymarket should be read as aggregated trader sentiment, not a poll-derived probability. Traders are pricing in fundamentals (fundraising, endorsements, district lean, incumbent departure) rather than responding to any specific survey. That distinction matters for readers evaluating confidence. A 71% price built on polls would carry different conviction than a 71% price built on structural analysis alone.

The gap between the police endorsement narrative and the market's actual direction suggests traders weight financial infrastructure more heavily than individual endorsements. Shah's CLEAA backing is a real credential, but it does not close the fundraising deficit, neutralize the Trump endorsement, or resolve the primary fragmentation risk. Until public polling emerges, or until the primary field narrows, the prediction market's 8-point correction toward Republicans looks more like a rational reassessment than noise.
