Darian Mensah's Heisman Chances Rise to 22% After Miami's Win Over Florida State
Darian Mensah's chances of winning the 2026 Heisman Trophy rose to 22% on Kalshi's "College Football Heisman Trophy Winner?" market, up from 14% over the three days ending Oct. 21. The Miami quarterback threw for 326 yards and three touchdowns in a 43-35 double-overtime win over Florida State on Oct. 17. Miami stayed undefeated and moved to No. 1, according to CBS Sports. Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith remains the favorite.
That 8-percentage-point gain leaves Mensah well behind Smith, who was priced at 43% on Polymarket (Mensah 23% there) after Ohio State's win at Indiana, per On3. That is a different venue from Kalshi, so the figures are not directly comparable. Mensah is a rising contender, not the frontrunner.

Mensah's season line supports the repricing. He has completed 80.8% of his passes for 1,764 yards, 18 touchdowns and one interception. That interception, his first of the season, came against Florida State. He completed 23 of 34 passes in the game.
What Drove the Move: Miami's No. 1 Ranking and Ohio State's Sayin Injury
The win and the ranking are the confirmed catalysts. Coverage after Week 7 describes Mensah as the most efficient quarterback in FBS, and Sports Illustrated listed him among the risers as Smith's lead shortened. Head coach Mario Cristobal credited Mensah's "football amnesia" after the interception, per Roundtable.
Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin injured his right shoulder in the 19-15 win at Indiana during the same window. Coach Ryan Day has said he is out indefinitely, and freshman Luke Fahey and St. Clair are competing for the start at USC, per CBS Sports and ESPN. No source ties Mensah's price change to the Sayin injury, so any link between the two is inferred, not confirmed.
What Could Confirm or Reverse Mensah's Heisman Price
Miami hosts Pitt next, and Mensah's ball security will face its next test there. Offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson has named pocket movement as an area to improve, per Sports Illustrated. An official update on Sayin's recovery would test the inferred link, while Smith's lead is the gap Mensah must close before the Dec. 12 resolution.
