- Traders are backing Google as the October favorite after its new model launched, even though independent scorecards still favor Anthropic.

Google's chances of having the best AI model at the end of October rose to 75% from 69% after Gemini 4 Argon became generally available on Oct 13, 2026, according to Reuters and The Verge. Argon is now in the API, AI Studio, the Gemini app and AI Mode for Pro and Ultra subscribers, per the Google Blog. Independent rankings such as Artificial Analysis still place Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 ahead.
On Polymarket, Google's implied probability in "Which Company Has the best AI model end of October" climbed from 69% to 75% over three days, a gain of 6 percentage points. That is 7 percentage points above the period low of 68%.

Why Google's Lead Rests on Its Own Benchmarks, Not an Independent Win
Google's case comes mostly from its own published numbers. The company says Argon ranks first on the Vals Index, which covers finance, coding, legal and tax tasks. Its own benchmark table showed Argon leading 13 of 19 results against Claude Opus 5.5 and Claude Fable 5.1. The Verge described the release as Google's attempt to return to the frontier "after months of trailing its rivals."
Independent scorecards are less favorable. As of Oct 2, the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index scored Argon at 53. That tied it with GPT-6 Astra and Claude Fable 5.1, and placed it behind Claude Opus 5.5 at 58 and Claude Sonnet 5.5 at 56. Arena WebDev ranked Argon ninth. On Agent Arena it sat between fifth and tenth, depending on the date.
Bloomberg reported that some Google employees found Argon weaker on real-world coding and front-end work than its benchmarks suggest. Google disputed that account. Analysts at IDC and Futurum said Argon makes Google competitive again but not the clear leader.
The Oct 13 launch is the only sourced catalyst for the repricing. We could not establish whether traders weighted Google's benchmark claims, a specific leaderboard, or other factors. The sources also do not name the leaderboard that settles this contract, so readers should check the market rules for the resolution source.
What Could Confirm or Reverse Google's 75% Before October Ends
The market resolves on Oct 31, 2026, under the criteria and leaderboard set out in its rules. That resolution source matters more than any vendor benchmark table.
Confirmation would mean the resolving leaderboard, or independent trackers like Artificial Analysis, moving Argon above Claude Opus 5.5 as more evaluations come in after general availability.
Reversal would mean Opus 5.5 keeping its five-point Artificial Analysis lead and similar margins elsewhere. Meta launched its Muse Wonder Full model around Oct 12. Our searches found no other competitor release scheduled for late October.
Google's introductory API pricing of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens doubles to $4 and $20 after Nov 30. That change falls after this contract settles.
