Will Trump Endorse JD Vance for 2028? Not Yet, and He Says It's "Too Early"

Trump has not endorsed JD Vance for the 2028 Republican nomination. He called an endorsement "way too early" on Aug 6 and repeated "It's too early" on Sept 13. Vance has not announced a campaign and says he will decide after the November 2026 midterms. Election Day is Nov. 3, which leaves about eight weeks (58 days) between the midterms and the Dec 31 deadline of the Polymarket contract "Will Trump endorse JD Vance for president before 2027?" (Newsquawk, DrawPie).

The contract's implied probability fell from 28% to 5% in three days, a drop of 23 percentage points. It stood at 5% on Oct. 19, the lowest price in the period.

What Trump Has Said About Vance: Praise, but No Endorsement

The closest Trump has come to an endorsement was in private. In early August, The Washington Post reported that Trump had told donors about two weeks earlier, "at the end of the day, we need to elect JD." Fox News confirmed the remark, according to the New York Post.

When reporters asked Trump on Aug 6 whether he had made an endorsement, he answered "No." He called the question "way too early" and added, "I think he's great," as The Washington Times reported. A day later, advisers told the Washington Examiner that his support is not "set in stone" and that he could still back Marco Rubio or another Republican.

Trump was asked again on Sept 13, on the tarmac at Shannon, Ireland. "It's too early. He's terrific... we have a very deep bench... they're all very good, but JD's fantastic," he said, according to News18. The official transcript of those remarks contains no Vance-Rubio ticket comment. Trump made a similar comment in June, per Breitbart.

Republican voters lean toward Vance more clearly than Trump does. A September Focaldata/Financial Times poll had Vance at 43% among GOP primary voters, with Rubio at 21% and Donald Trump Jr. at 7%. At the September GOP convention in Dallas, crowds chanted "JD! 48!" The poll measures voter preference. The 5% market price measures what traders expect Trump to do before Dec 31, which is a separate question.

The supplied material does not include the contract's settlement wording. Readers should check the market rules to see whether praise, a joint ticket, or a private remark would count as an endorsement.

Why the Vance Endorsement Odds Dropped to 5%: The Calendar Squeeze

We could not establish what caused the three-day drop. None of the coverage we reviewed is confirmed to date from the past 72 hours.

The public record fits a calendar explanation. Trump has said "too early" twice in roughly five weeks. Vance has tied his own decision to the period after the midterms. In June he told CBS he expects Trump to be "very supportive" of whatever he decides, which suggests Vance himself expects to move first. If that sequence holds, an endorsement would have to fit between Vance's post-November decision and Dec 31, a window of about eight weeks after Election Day, for a president who has repeatedly declined to commit.

What Could Still Change the Chances of a Trump Endorsement of Vance

"Too early" is not a "no." Trump has not ruled out endorsing Vance. He praised him in both public answers, and the reported donor remark shows he has at least privately argued for Vance's election. If Vance announces soon after the midterms and Trump endorses him quickly, the contract could resolve YES before the deadline.

There are also reasons the price could stay low. Advisers have kept Rubio in play, and Trump has not named a single candidate. Traders tracking the Trump-Vance endorsement market will watch three things: Trump's first remarks about 2028 after the November elections, any formal announcement from Vance, and whether Trump starts naming a single candidate instead of describing a "deep bench."
