- Traders have largely given up on Dogecoin ending 2026 in the green, as the meme coin falls harder than Bitcoin.
Will Dogecoin Have a Positive Return in 2026? Market Now Says 6%
Dogecoin looks unlikely to post a positive 2026 return, according to traders. On Kalshi, the DOGE contract in "Which of these cryptocurrencies will have a positive return in 2026?" fell from 30% to 6% in three days, a drop of 24 percentage points. The coin traded near $0.080 on Oct. 20, about 17% below its Oct. 1 high, after a global AI and chip-stock selloff dragged on crypto. We could not identify a single DOGE-specific event that explains the move.

The repricing tracks a broader rotation out of riskier tokens. Bitcoin held near $81,000 to $83,000, and the sharpest losses landed on altcoins, the corner of the market this contract depends on.
Why Dogecoin Fell: AI Selloff, 3.7% CPI and ETF Outflows Hit Altcoins
The most recent pressure came on Oct. 20. South Korea's KOSPI fell about 3.7% and the Nikkei dropped more than 1% as chip stocks slid, which weighed on crypto sentiment. Bitcoin dipped to $81,400 as options traders paid up for downside protection, and market jitters persisted through the session.
Macro data added weight. September CPI came in at 3.7% year over year and PPI at 6.3%, which pushed Fed rate-hike odds higher in mid-October before they partly faded. Spot Bitcoin ETFs lost $228.6 million and Ether ETFs lost $320 million in the week ending Oct. 16. Over the same stretch, ETH fell about 5%, SOL about 6.5% and XRP about 7%. Liquidations of roughly $950 million hit on Oct. 14-15.
DOGE carried its own drag. Bitwise said it is closing its Dogecoin spot ETF, a fund with under $700,000 in assets. The closure was announced in September, with last trading on Oct. 14, so it is not a fresh catalyst. The three U.S. DOGE ETFs have drawn only about $12 million to $15 million in cumulative net inflows. Bitwise's fund is too small to serve as a trigger on its own. It mainly shows how little institutional demand the coin has drawn.
The technical picture is bearish. DOGE trades inside a descending channel, below a cluster of moving averages. Resistance sits at the 50- and 200-day EMAs near $0.086 and $0.092. RSI is around 39 and MACD is below zero. The available sources do not establish which of these pressures mattered most.
What Could Confirm or Reverse Dogecoin's 6% Odds
Support levels. The first test is support at $0.0785, with a second floor at $0.0761. A move back above $0.081 would be the first sign of stabilization.
Whale buying. On-chain data showed large holders adding about 600 million DOGE near $0.08 between Oct. 12 and Oct. 16. That accumulation has not yet stopped the slide. Analysts also point to roughly 5 billion DOGE in annual new supply as a steady headwind.
The Fed meeting. The next macro checkpoint is the Federal Reserve's Oct. 28 meeting. Markets price an 83% chance of a hold. A hawkish surprise would add pressure on altcoins, while a calm decision paired with a pause in the chip selloff would remove one of the recent drags. ETF flow reports, which have kept Bitcoin below $82,000, are a second gauge of risk appetite.
DOGE's own projects. DogeOS opened a public Ethereum-compatible testnet on Sept. 30-Oct. 1 but has no mainnet date. The Dogecoin Core OP_CHECKZKP upgrade has no activation date either. Live pricing for every coin in the contract is on the 2026 positive-return cryptocurrency market page.
