- Traders have sharply marked down Oklahoma State after its loss at Houston, leaving the Cowboys a long shot behind three unbeaten Big 12 rivals.
Oklahoma State's chances of winning the Big 12 championship fell from 17% to 5% in the College Football Big 12 Championship Winner market over three days, a move that coincides with the Cowboys' 35-32 loss at No. 20 Houston on Oct. 17. The loss dropped them to 2-1 in conference play, one game behind BYU, Texas Tech and Utah, which are all 3-0. We found no report from the last 72 hours that directly attributes the drop to the game, but no other news overlaps the timing as closely.

The widget shows a traded market price, not a poll or a model forecast. As of Oct. 19, Oklahoma St traded at 4% on Kalshi and 6% on Polymarket. The 2-point gap between the venues is small, and the 4% Kalshi price sits at the period low.
Why One Loss Leaves Oklahoma State Behind BYU, Texas Tech and Utah
The Houston game followed a familiar pattern for Oklahoma State this season: a strong second half that came too late. The Cowboys trailed 14-3 at halftime and then rallied. Quarterback Drew Mestemaker threw for 365 yards and three touchdowns. Kicker Sam Keltner stayed perfect on the season at 13-for-13. Houston's Weigman answered with five touchdown passes, according to the Associated Press.
The standings explain why the loss matters. Oklahoma State, in its first season under head coach Eric Morris, is 4-2 overall. It now needs at least two of the three unbeaten teams to lose before it can reach the title game in its own right. Its record does include proof it can beat top teams: a 39-31 win over then-No. 6 Oregon on Sept. 12 and a 42-28 win over UCF on Oct. 10. It also lost its opener to Tulsa, 24-10.
We found no other confirmed catalyst, such as an injury, suspension or coaching change involving Oklahoma State. The most notable injury news in the conference concerns a rival. BYU running back LJ Martin has a lower-leg injury expected to sideline him four to six weeks, according to Sports Illustrated, citing ESPN's Pete Thamel.

What the Big 12 Championship Winner Market Does and Doesn't Tell You
The 5% figure is the market's implied probability that Oklahoma State wins the conference title. It is not a ranking. It also tells you nothing about how much money traded on the move, and no volume data was available to measure that.
Sportsbook prices are a separate measure from these contracts. As of Oct. 9, before Oklahoma State's loss, CollegeFootballProps.com listed Texas Tech at +260 and BYU at +450, with Utah's implied share at 26.7%. Separately, On3 had Texas Tech as a slight Polymarket favorite heading into Week 7.
The conference's automatic College Football Playoff bid goes to the winner of the Big 12 Championship Game. That game is set for Friday, Dec. 4, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, at 7 p.m. CT on ABC. The contract resolves by Jan. 2, 2027. Live prices for every contender are on the Big 12 Championship Winner odds page.
