- Traders are leaning further toward a Hammond move even as Illinois's governor insists the team could stay, leaving Indiana short of a majority.

Will the Bears Move to Indiana? Not Yet, but the Market Prices It at 40%
Not yet: the Bears have not committed to Indiana, and no final site, agreement or timeline has been announced. However, the team's board voted in June 2026 to explore Indiana sites after the Illinois legislature failed to pass a stadium incentive package. Bears President Kevin Warren has called Hammond the team's "sole focus" and described Illinois talks as "minimal." On Kalshi, the Indiana outcome in the Chicago Pro Football Team: Relocation market rose from 32% to 40% over three days, roughly 8 percentage points, as of Oct. 16.

The rise stands out because the newest headline in the story points the other way.
Pritzker Says the Bears Stadium Could Still End Up in Illinois
In mid-October, Gov. JB Pritzker said he is confident the stadium could still be built in Illinois, possibly in Chicago, and said he had spoken with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, NBC Chicago reported. Axios Chicago reported on Oct. 14 that he had again raised the possibility of a Chicago site. Illinois has not called a special session to revive the incentive package.
The Bears' own statements tell a different story. Chairman George McCaskey said the team is "moving forward in Hammond." Warren said in August that the team is in near-daily contact with Indiana officials, including Gov. Mike Braun. Indiana has already created a Northwest Indiana Stadium Authority in Hammond. The team is evaluating two sites near Wolf Lake: Lost Marsh and Wolf Lake Terminal. We could not establish what caused the price rise, and no sourced event ties the move to a specific development.
What Could Confirm or Reverse the Indiana Odds
Hammond Mayor Tom McDermott said in September that the effort is in the "red zone," but he added that the Bears have the final say, according to Inside Indiana Business. Goodell has said there is "no specific timetable" and that Illinois and Arlington Heights should have an "opportunity" to make their case, NBC Chicago reported.
Several developments could move the price:
- Toward Indiana: a formal Hammond site announcement or a signed agreement with the stadium authority.
- Away from Indiana: a special session in Springfield or a concrete Chicago or Arlington Heights proposal that backs Pritzker's claim.
The market resolves by Sept. 7, 2028.
