The contract was up from 80% three days earlier. The catalyst was a sequence of incremental model updates, not a single data shock. The NY Fed nowcast has climbed from about 2.46% in early October to about 2.65% and then to 2.7%. With both models above the line, traders treat 2.5% as a floor already cleared rather than a target still in doubt.

Why the 2.5% Line Looks Cleared, and Where Forecasters Disagree

The cushion depends on which model you trust. GDPNow sits 1.1 points above the threshold. The NY Fed nowcast sits just 0.2 points above it. The survey consensus offers no cushion at all: the Philadelphia Fed Survey of Professional Forecasters, released Aug 14, put its Q3 median at exactly 2.5%.

The market's move also outran the data. The latest NY Fed revision was about 0.1 points, while the contract gained about 8 percentage points. GDPNow did not rise in its latest print; it slipped to 3.6% from 3.7% on Oct 8 and has fallen from 5.0% on Sep 25. The cause of the market's jump is not confirmed.

Consensus prediction market price

Trade is the largest swing factor. GDPNow carries a net-export drag of roughly 2.7 points, and Wells Fargo flagged a drag near 3.0 points even as it raised its Q3 forecast to 3.2% on resilient consumer spending and firm capex. A larger trade hit in the official data would erode the NY Fed's slim margin first.

When the BEA Q3 2026 Advance Estimate Arrives

The Bureau of Economic Analysis advance estimate is scheduled for Oct 29 at 8:30 a.m. EDT. A print above 2.5% confirms the pricing; a print at or below 2.5% reverses it. Before then, any further NY Fed or GDPNow revisions are the interim signals, with a NY Fed drop below 2.5% the clearest warning.

Traders hold a more divided view higher up the curve: Kalshi listed Above 3.0% near 68% and Above 3.5% near 37%. The full bracket ladder is on the US GDP growth in Q3 2026 market page.
